I think all the characters were great and used their brains for different ideas. It surprised me when I looked at the front cover because I had a different design in mind. I liked Laura Marlin because she was brave and she accidentally boards her best friend Tariq and her three-legged husky Skye on the cruise ship. Jimmy wants to be Laura and Tariq’s friend but Laura and Tariq think that Jimmy’s parents are over-protective. When I reached the middle of the story, I got a bit confused. But I liked the part when, Uncle Calvin vanishes and Laura and Tariq are about to be kidnapped by the fearsome ‘Straight A’ gang. I would recommend this book for children over 7 because it would be easier to understand and more exciting. Indicative Rating: 4/5

She waits a long long time until one day a man came to her uncles Calvin’s house he knocks on the door but nobody answers. Then Laura came up to the man and said “Who are you looking for” “I am looking a little girl called Laura” Why” “because she has won a raffle””in that case that’s me YES!!!”. The funniest part was when Laura starts to jump up and down and the saddest part was when Laura’s uncle falls down the stairs and breaks his legs. I would recommend this book to all of my friends, it’s fantastic. Lauren St John is an amazing writer. I think that Lauren has called the main character ‘Laura’ because it is similar her name. My favourite part was when they were in the lava tunnel when they were trapped and were being followed by Janet and little and large. However, the sad part was when Walter, a German man, told the story about his friend Manfred and also that Grace, Charley’s mum, called her wooden dog Little Manfred. She called the dog Little Manfred because Manfred made it for her before the journey back to Germany. I loved this book and want to read more of Michael Morpurgo’s books in the future. Loads of people like stories about dogs and if they have not read this one they should surely read it. You can even gift this book as a present on somebody’s birthday it is that good. In just a short story it got across a lovely message: everyone is our friend, even if you had been fighting them for six years. The bond between Charley’s mum and Manfred was amazingly strong and they’d only known each other for a short while. I liked this book as much as any other Michael Morpurgo book. My favourite bit from the book is when Walter told the children about his time in the war with his best friend Manfred. I thought that the dog was very cute. My favourite character was mum because she was very attached to the little toy dog, called little Manfred. She called it that because Walter’s friend Manfred had died the night that they were going to give it to her, but Manfred had died that night as well. That’s why she called it little Manfred. It inspires me because my grandmas got a dog which has been with me since I’ve been a baby and it brings back memories. I know the dog will meet its end soon but I know I can use this book to remember him by and it will help me know that he’s always there and you should never forget or stop believing in him. All the characters were funny but my favourite character was the Moon Hare because he was clever and dumb at the same time. I never quite liked the king because he was too fussy and never appreciated what he had. I think the girl was too spoilt and wanted everything , she wanted a dragon and her parents bought a dragon for her but when it arrived she never fed it or took it for a walk even though dragons fly. The story was about a moon Hare who was sent on a quest to rescue King Winston from getting his head chopped off, but in my opinion, the story dragged on too long. At the start I was curious about what was going to happen but towards the end I lost all interest in the story. I enjoyed the fact parts of the text were written in italics. It was also written in different fonts and sizes. In the end I didn’t enjoy the book but someone around the age of 8 might not agree with me. The stroppy princess, talking animals and the story line weren’t my thing. However I did like the use of font changing to emphasise points and the drawings were very well drawn. Another reason why I didn’t enjoy the book was because the story itself was too predictable for my liking and I like books that keep you on the the edge of your seat and this book didn’t provide that. The story line was too simple with not enough problems throughout. It all comes down to opinion and some people will like this kind of story but it wasn’t my cup of tea. My little sister might have liked it but the literature would be too progressive. Overall I would give this book a 3/10 for its weaknesses. Indicative Rating: 3/5

Sandra had purple scales. Sandra was a bit bad tempered, which is why he messed up the castle. What really made him bad tempered was that PJ called him Sandra when actually he was a boy! He was dangling down by a piece of rope and she had to cut the rope to rescue him and then they flew away on a dragon called Sandra. I would have preferred it if P.J wasn’t as bossy all the time. I found it and enjoyed it as much as the first one. Isadore had murdered Oz and Lily’s great, great Uncles Pierre and Marcel. He did this to be able to steal their magic chocolate molds, which would allow Isadore to become the most powerful chocolatier in the world. His plan was to sell the immortality chocolate to criminal organizations all over the world. My favorite character was Spike because he was a dirty old, smoking, immortal, talking rat who liked to butt into conversations and be a pain in the neck! Demerara was a sensible immortal talking cat who was desperate to kill Spike but couldn’t because he was immortal. I enjoyed the book. I especially liked it when they were in the underground tunnel searching for Isadore’s hideout. 8 out of 10! Rating: 4/5

Mum’s car breaks down on the motorway, so they need a new car too. I wouldn’t want to be in Billy’s situation, would you? When Billy was walking past Kyle Perry’s house (a popular boy in his school)he saw Mrs Perry mad at Mr Perry and throwing things out of the window. One of the things was an envelope that Billy caught in his hands when he was walking past. In the envelope was lots of £20 notes. Billy wondered how it would all fit in as there was that much money. Mr Perry tells the police that lots of money has been stolen. Billy then finds out that Mr Perry told the police he had some money stolen, then realised that it must have been the money that Mrs Perry threw out of the window. Billy tells his dad about this and his dad helps to sort things out and returns the money. The moral of the story is that Billy realises that money does not buy happiness. Rating: 4/5

I have to say it didn’t stop me from enjoying the book. When Billy had all that money and no one else knew,it made me feel like I was in his place and I felt guilty and frightened. Whilst I was reading about the false alarm with the baby, I fell for it and thought the baby was coming! Some characters, like Big Lauren and Stan, made the book lively and funny. Some things Stan said and the time he dyed his hair purple made me laugh. Overall I enjoyed the second half of the book better then the first half. I would rate this book 7/10. Rating: 3.5/5

Harry, aged 11 Review: The book, ‘The Money,Stan,Big Lauren and Me,’ was a little slow moving and lacked in excitement to start off with. Some of the arguments like, what to watch on TV,or whether his family were allowed in his room were a little boring and pointless. However as the story thoroughly progressed further, about midway through it improved and more things started to happening like when they were hoping to move to 17 Mornington Street or when Billy and Stan started going to bingo with their nan so they had a chance of winning some money. Towards the end the story it improved drastically because it made me as if I was Billy when his mum was in hospital when everyone thought she was in labour but it was just a false alarm. My opinion’s that overall I enjoyed the book, but I think it could be a more exciting and funnier read. Rating: 3/5

Parts of it I did not understand like the bounty bar part, but until it got going on page 110, there was not enough action. I liked the part when they found out about the money under Billy’s pillow. I did not like the part about the accident with the baby. I thought that it was quite scary. My favourite part was the part about “Britain’s Got Talent”. That was a good idea for the writer. I would read it again if I ever had the chance to. It is a great book so I would recommend it to most people. When the envelope had stopped talking, Billy opened it and found £5,540 that was my favourite bit because it was very exciting and I like exciting books. In my opinion I think it’s a very cool book. However it’s not really my sort of book, but other people will like it, because people are different. It’s not my kind of book because I like adventure and scary books. First it starts with a page from the main character’s diary explaining the name of the main character his brother and his step-dad. After three and a half pages the book starts properly. A hilarious and brilliant book. I really liked it the only part I didn’t understand was the part about the Bounties. I really liked the part about the money and the part about feeding the hamster the money. If I ever had the chance, I would read it again (even though this isn’t the best book in the world). If people asked about children’s books, I would highly recommend this book to them. Also I would recommend this book to a 9 to 12 year old. It was a thoroughly enjoyable book and I wish I could read it again. Rating: 4.5/5

With the aid of little brother Stan and best friend Bif Lauren, Billy sets out to make his fortune. Nothing seems to work, until Billy stumbles across an envelope full of twenty pound notes that adds up to £5,345, whilst crossing a boy’s house and the boy’s mum accidentally seemed to drop it. He hides the money but he didn’t seem to feel any better. So he decides to lie that he is going to an x-factor audition, but instead he goes to the airport, and his mum’s friend spots him and calls him Dave, but Dave doesn’t say anything to Billy’s mum. And Billy’s mum gets a baby. I think that children 8-12 years old would like this book, especially those children that think that they are poor, so that they can learn that money isn’t everything about life. I would recommend this book so that everyone knows that money isn’t everything in life. Rating: 4/5
