Kidnap in the Caribbean

Reviewer Name: Bob Reviewer Age: 6 Review: I hated it – booo! Indicative Rating: 1/5

Reviewer Name: Aamina Reviewer Age: 10 Review: I think this book had lots of different events and included lots of impact. I think all the characters were great and used their brains for different ideas. It surprised me when I looked at the front cover because I had a different design in mind. I don’t usually read these kind of books, I only like comedy books, but I think this book has made me realize that I like these kind of books although it doesn’t beat comedy! Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer Name: Kyle Reviewer Age: 10 Review: It is a fantastic book. I absolutely loved reading the book. It is about a girl called Laura, she has a friend called Tariq. Laura has a dog called Skye. She wants to be a detective when she is older. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Ben Reviewer Age: 11 Review: I think the book was really good and the characters are really good. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer Name: Raheema Reviewer Age: 10 Review: I thought the book was really good but the ending was a bit weird. I liked the book because it had a lot of action in it. My favourite character was Laura Marlin because she saved her uncle and she was very brave because she blocked the Marine Concern in the volcano. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer Name: Mariya Reviewer Age: 10 Review: This was a good book. It did lose it in the middle but caught up at the end. Indicative Rating: 3/5

Reviewer Name: Lottie Reviewer Age: 9 Review: It was a good book and I really enjoyed it. It was a hard book to read though so it took me a long time to read. My favourite character was Skye the husky dog. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer Name: Tamina Reviewer Age: 9 Review: This book is awesome. I liked Laura Marlin because she was brave and she accidentally boards her best friend Tariq and her three-legged husky Skye on the cruise ship. Jimmy wants to be Laura and Tariq’s friend but Laura and Tariq think that Jimmy’s parents are over-protective. When I reached the middle of the story, I got a bit confused. But I liked the part when, Uncle Calvin vanishes and Laura and Tariq are about to be kidnapped by the fearsome ‘Straight A’ gang. I would recommend this book for children over 7 because it would be easier to understand and more exciting. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer Name: Aliyha Reviewer Age: 10 Review: This book is amazing, the part that I liked was when Laura enters a raffle and really hopes to win. She waits a long long time until one day a man came to her uncles Calvin’s house he knocks on the door but nobody answers. Then Laura came up to the man and said “Who are you looking for” “I am looking a little girl called Laura” Why” “because she has won a raffle””in that case that’s me YES!!!”. The funniest part was when Laura starts to jump up and down and the saddest part was when Laura’s uncle falls down the stairs and breaks his legs. I would recommend this book to all of my friends, it’s fantastic. Lauren St John is an amazing writer. I think that Lauren has called the main character ‘Laura’ because it is similar her name. I would give this book 10/10. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Saddiqa Reviewer Age: 9 Review: This book was ok. But this book was not my type. It was quite boring. It’s just about Tariq and Laura getting kidnapped. I would recommend this book for children learning about pirates because they get kidnapped and get taken to the ship. I give this book a rating of 7. Indicative Rating: 3/5

Reviewer Name: Aamina Reviewer Age: 9 Review: My favourite character is Lauren because she is a show off also she said something similar to this “I’m getting 5 tickets so I am definitely going to win so there Ha.” Out of ten I would give it 5 out of ten that’s my opinion. I would recommend this book to people who like adventure books. Indicative Rating: 2.5/5

Reviewer Name: Jack Reviewer Age: 10 Review: The book Kidnap in the Caribbean is well good the best book I have read in ages. I understood every word of it. My favourite character was Jimmy because he was cool and impatient. I would rate it a ten out of ten and would recommend it to everyone I know. It should have an age limit of seven and over because it is scary at some times but is really good. My favourite part was when they were in the lava tunnel when they were trapped and were being followed by Janet and little and large. Overall it was one of the best books I have ever read Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Hermione Reviewer Age: 9 Review: It was OK but it wasn’t really an exciting book. There was a girl, who was the main part, Laura Marlin and her little dog Skye, Laura’s best friend is Tariq. They all go on an exciting trip against there enemies. It sounds exciting but when you read it its not that exciting. Indicative Rating: 2.5/5

Reviewer Name: Archie Reviewer Age: 11 Review: Thought I had read the best FBA book until I read this. It beat The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop and the others. It took unexpected twists especially when Laura’s uncle went missing. The characters appealed to my liking. Jimmy was a crazy and fun character who was accident prone and Tariq was brave and heroic. I’d love to have been on the cruise and on the island. The description in the book made the adventure come to life! I thought the culprit would have been the cruise crew but I was fooled! This book gets 11/10 because it was fantastic! Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Harry Reviewer Age: 11 Review: The book ‘Kidnap in the Caribbean’ was an OK book. In my opinion it doesn’t beat ‘The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop’. The book never really got anywhere and I didn’t enjoy reading it at all! My favourite character was Jimmy because he was brave. My favourite part of the story was when Tariq threw his milkshake into the pirates’ faces when they were pulling Laura onto their galleon. I would rate the book 6/10. Indicative Rating: 3/5

Reviewer Name: Peter Reviewer Age: 10 Review: Kidnap in the Caribbean is a brilliant detective book about a girl called Laura Marlin whose parents have died and she lives with her uncle called Calvin Redfern, who was an EX-detective, and their dog Skye. They win a trip to an island in the Caribbean but their uncle falls and hurts himself. She and a friend discover a daring kidnap made by the Straight As. My favourite character is Tariq because he is different from the other characters in the book. I would recommend this book to readers from 9 to 12 years. I would rate this book at 8-10. A good book. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer Name: Logan Reviewer Age: Not provided Review: ‘Kidnap in the Caribbean’ is a fantastic book because Laura and Sky win a cruise to the Caribbean Laura cannot contain her excitement when she wins a trip to the Caribbean for herself and her uncle, Calvin Redfern, especially when her best friend, Tariq, and her three-legged husky, Skye, accidentally find themselves on board too. But when they dock at Antigua, they discover that Calvin Redfern has vanished, and Laura and Tariq are about to be kidnapped by the fearsome Straight a gang. Dramatic escapes, an erupting volcano and a race against time to stop the deadly undercover ‘Marine Concern’ make Laura’s second adventure every bit as exciting as the first. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Little Manfred

Reviewer: Amy Age: 10 Review: A superb book, a great adventure when Grace goes back in time to listen to part of her Mum’s childhood. I would recommend this to all readers. Please read this book, it is a great experience, part of life in World War 2. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer: Mariya Age: 10 Review: This book was the best book ever. I thought it was mind blowing. It only took me one night to read it-I was that hooked in!! Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer: Aamina Age: 10 Review: I didn’t actually like this book but it was okay. My best part was when they were at the beach and an old woman and old man were watching them play with Manfred. They named the dog right after her toy dog which she named Little Manfred until it broke. Her parents bought her a new dog real of course and she named it Manfred after her old dog. Indicative Rating: 3/5

Reviewer: Raheema Age: 10 Review: I didn’t really like Little Manfred. It was boring because nothing really happened in it other than an old man once again met a little child that he met when he was in the World War. My favourite character was the mum because she was so pleased to see the old man she met when she was young and she really liked the wooden dog (Little Manfred) thats why she started crying when dad broke the toy. My favourite part was when the old man walked into the house and when both the mum and the old man saw each other, it was a really happy moment and as I was reading that part I felt really happy. Indicative Rating: 2/5

Reviewer: Iky Age: 10 Review: I think this book was not really my type, it quite made me sleep. Indicative Rating: 2/5

Reviewer: Saddiqa Age: 9 Review: My favourite part is when Walter created a dog for Grace and she named it little Manfred. The unhappy part is when bombs and explosions hit the earth and it trembles. I recommend this book for class readers because it’s very interesting also if I was a boy I’d enjoy it because it has football photos at the end with information. A fabulous book to read! Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer: Isabel Age: 9 Review: Little Manfred is a very emotional book. Once I had started it I just couldn’t stop. It is all about two men called Walter and Manfred. Walter is hurt so a English ship helps them. Manfred and Walter meet a man called Marty. Manfred and Walter are looking for mines when a terrible accident happens. It’s a must read. Make sure you have a tissue around when you read. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer: Tamina Age: 9 Review: This book was interesting. I was sad and a bit silly. My favourite character was Alex because he always followed his big sis Charley around and was very annoying. However, the sad part was when Walter, a German man, told the story about his friend Manfred and also that Grace, Charley’s mum, called her wooden dog Little Manfred. She called the dog Little Manfred because Manfred made it for her before the journey back to Germany. I loved this book and want to read more of Michael Morpurgo’s books in the future. Recommended to children of all ages. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer: Nimra Age: 9 Review: I think this book is great because I like to read about beaches and I was shocked to find out that Manfred was a dog I thought it would be a boy. I was surprised to find out Alex was a football player. It was great to hear that Alex had a sister called Charley. Alex called Manfred Mannie sometimes. But the story is a bit sad. Most of all I think your story was interesting so I’d like to read another book of yours. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer: Aisha Age: 10 Review: I thought the book was very interesting. It was quite weird when all of a sudden new characters popped in because I did not know who they were. Little Manfred was the second book I read, I thought it was a little emotional about the dog. I really liked this book, loads of children in my class liked it very much too. Have you ever read it because if you have not read it before, buy it from a shop or borrow it from a library. Loads of people like stories about dogs and if they have not read this one they should surely read it. You can even gift this book as a present on somebody’s birthday it is that good. As soon as we started this thing – fantastic book award – I was really keen. I would definitely recommend it to friends or family and I would give it 9/10 Indicative Rating: 4.5/5

Reviewer: Holly Age: 9 Review: I think that this book was excellent. But it got boring just after the start. But also my favourite character was Little Manfred the dog he was loving and caring. I would recommend this book to someone who likes sad stories. Indicative Rating: 3.5/5

Reviewer: Jack Age: 10 Review: Little Manfred is really good and interesting it is one of the shortest books I have read but it is a very good one and is very mysterious because they were talking to strangers before they even got to them. My favourite part was when they were doing the flashback to when they were younger on the Bismarck and then being saved by the HMS Dorsetshire. My favourite character was Walter. I would rate this book an eight out of ten. I would recommend it to people who like short stories and in an age group of five to eight. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer: Archie Age: 11 Review: I couldn’t really compare Little Manfred to any other books. In just a short story it got across a lovely message: everyone is our friend, even if you had been fighting them for six years. The bond between Charley’s mum and Manfred was amazingly strong and they’d only known each other for a short while. I liked this book as much as any other Michael Morpurgo book. My favourite character was Alex. He asked silly questions and reminded me of when my brother was younger. I enjoyed reading this book and am going to give it 8/10. A good read. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer: Harry Age: 11 Review: ‘Little Manfred’ is my favourite book yet. I enjoyed reading the book because it was quite sad and I like sad books. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer: Hermione Age: 10 Review: I adore this book and it is one of my favourite books. My favourite bit from the book is when Walter told the children about his time in the war with his best friend Manfred. I thought that the dog was very cute. My favourite character was mum because she was very attached to the little toy dog, called little Manfred. She called it that because Walter’s friend Manfred had died the night that they were going to give it to her, but Manfred had died that night as well. That’s why she called it little Manfred. I think the age group for this book would be 7 to 10 because it’s a very easy book. The picture were very clear as well. I loved this book. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer: Mollie Age: 10 Review: Little Manfred was a very emotional book. I thought it was very sweet and it certainly got my attention when I read the first line. It just shows how sad life can be. It inspires me because my grandmas got a dog which has been with me since I’ve been a baby and it brings back memories. I know the dog will meet its end soon but I know I can use this book to remember him by and it will help me know that he’s always there and you should never forget or stop believing in him. The little Manfred book is definitely a keeper. Thank you. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Aamina Reviewer Age: 10 Review: I think this book was fantastic. All the characters were funny but my favourite character was the Moon Hare because he was clever and dumb at the same time. I never quite liked the king because he was too fussy and never appreciated what he had. I think the girl was too spoilt and wanted everything , she wanted a dragon and her parents bought a dragon for her but when it arrived she never fed it or took it for a walk even though dragons fly. I would recommend this book 100/100 At the end I think the lesson was never ever have a pet dragon! Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Raheema Reviewer Age: 10 Review: I think that the Magnificent Moon Hare was ok because it didn’t have that much action in it and I like books with a lot of action in it. My favourite character was the Moon Hare because he was very clever and always thought up the perfect plans, I also liked him because he stopped P.J from being so spoilt. My favourite part was when the king was hanging upside down because it sounded funny and it made me laugh. Indicative Rating: 3/5

Reviewer Name: Aamina Reviewer Age: 9 Review: In the Magnificent Moon Hare my favourite characters are the Moon Hare, P.J and Sandara the dragon. They are my favourite characters because Sandara wants a sponge cake with blue icing on top of it. I also like the moon hare because he says his name is CrampyFlampyPuff and also like P.J because first she wants a dragon then she doesn’t. They all lived in a huge house that`s how Sandra can fit inside it. I would recommend this book to people who laugh a lot. My rating is 10 out of 10. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Ayman Reviewer Age: 9 Review: I think this book was quite funny and interesting. My favourite part was when the moon hare was talking and P.G thought that he was on the moon. I also like the part where King Rupert had sent a letter that said we need the Queen back or else I’ll chop King Winston’s head off. It was actually quite funny. I think everybody would like this book so I give it definitely 10/10. It was the best read ever. Who would ever disagree with this? The way the moon hare spoke was really funny it was unbelievable. Age-wise I’d recommend this book for children who really enjoy reading. I would also recommend this book for adults as well. My favourite character was the moon hare because at times he’s quite funny. My favourite part was when PJ and the moon hare fooled King Rupert by putting the chess piece in his pocket. But King Rupert kidnaps King Winstonand he’s going to get him executed by Darren. Why? Who’s going to save him? And whoever is going to save him will they get there in time? Have a read and find out.I would give this book ten out of ten because this book is totally my type and I couldn’t stop reading! Indicative Rating: 5/5

Have a read and find out. I would give this book ten out of ten because this book is totally my type and I couldn’t stop reading. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Moizz Reviewer Age: 10 Review: I liked the book (The Magnificent Moon Hare) because I liked the description of it and how it started the beginning of the story. I even liked the ending of it as well. I would give it 10/10. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Issie Reviewer Age: 10 Review: I really enjoyed this book because it had so much humour in it and also loved the characters. My favourite character was the moon hair because he was funny and liked to put objects down the stripy that he stole from PJ’s wardrobe. Also I liked PJ because she changed her attitude at the end of the book and became a better person. I would give this book 5/5 and I would recommend it to my friends. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Harry Reviewer Age: 11 Review: The Magnificent Moon Hare was a book purposely written for a younger age range and it was quite childish and boring. The story was about a moon Hare who was sent on a quest to rescue King Winston from getting his head chopped off, but in my opinion, the story dragged on too long. At the start I was curious about what was going to happen but towards the end I lost all interest in the story. I enjoyed the fact parts of the text were written in italics. It was also written in different fonts and sizes. In the end I didn’t enjoy the book but someone around the age of 8 might not agree with me. In the end would rate the book 2/10. Indicative Rating: 2/5

Reviewer Name: Archie Reviewer Age: 11 Review: The book The Magnificent Moon Hare was a tad too young for me. That’s probably why I couldn’t get into it. The stroppy princess, talking animals and the story line weren’t my thing. However I did like the use of font changing to emphasise points and the drawings were very well drawn. Another reason why I didn’t enjoy the book was because the story itself was too predictable for my liking and I like books that keep you on the the edge of your seat and this book didn’t provide that. The story line was too simple with not enough problems throughout. It all comes down to opinion and some people will like this kind of story but it wasn’t my cup of tea. My little sister might have liked it but the literature would be too progressive. Overall I would give this book a 3/10 for its weaknesses. Indicative Rating: 3/5

Reviewer Name: Hermione Reviewer Age: 9 Review: I really liked this story because it was simple and easy for me to read.It had pictures init so it felt like I was in the story. What I didn’t get was when they were showing who everyone was, because the Moon Hare was called different things on his body.It was really exiting when PJ got a dragon [called Sandra] because it was making a mess around the tidy castle! Sandra had purple scales. Sandra was a bit bad tempered, which is why he messed up the castle. What really made him bad tempered was that PJ called him Sandra when actually he was a boy! PJ, Moon Hare and Sandra all went to save the king [King Winston]. He could have had his head chopped off! My favorite character is the Moon Hare, because he is funny. In my opinion it’s a good book! Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Jack Reviewer Age: 10 Review: The book “The Magnificent Moon Hare” was a really good book, I found it a bit more childish than I expected. I think it dragged on a bit too much; I would not want to read it again. The part that was a bit funny was the moon hare collecting things in his stripy pants. The other funny part was the silly dragon having reading glasses. I do not know what marzipan is. I would recommend this book as an age limit of 5 to 8 and a rating of 2 out of 10. It is definitely not the best book in the world but it was not the worst. It was funny in some parts but the other parts were boring rescuing the king from getting his head chopped off dragged on too long. Indicative Rating: 2/5

Reviewer Name: Logan Reviewer Age: 10 Review: My favourite character was the magnificent Moon Hare because of his entertaining names and also due to his extraordinary behaviour and P.J was as bossy and stubborn. The most dramatic part about the book was when P.J went to save her dad (the king). He was dangling down by a piece of rope and she had to cut the rope to rescue him and then they flew away on a dragon called Sandra. I would have preferred it if P.J wasn’t as bossy all the time. She was even bossy when she got her dad back. I enjoyed the book from start to finish. The Moon Hare went one night and then came back. P.J was surprised and gave him a big hug because she really wanted a Moon Hare and she did not want him to go and the Moon Hare said I want fun games and jokes and tricks and lots of fantastic stuff and with that, he gave the elastic on his green stripy tights a TWANG. Indicative Rating: 4/5

Reviewer Name: Aneesa Reviewer Age: 10 Review: My favourite characters are the moon hare, Sandra the dragon and P.J (Petunia Joy.) I like the dragon because his passion is eating human flesh. In my opinion, the moon hare is hilarious because everything he finds, he puts into his pants and at the end his pants are so stuffed he can’t walk! P.J loves getting her own way. I recommend this book to the ones aged seven or over. Out of ten I would definitely rate this a ten. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Aliyah Reviewer Age: 9 Review: I think this book was really funny. My favourite characters are the moon hare, P.J, Sandra the dragon and King Winston. I choose the moon hare because he is very funny and he likes to put things in his pants. I choose P.J because she is very bossy and she likes to get her own way. I choose Sandra the dragon because he is very funny and he likes to eat human flesh. I choose King Winston because he is very kind and he likes to play chess. I would recommend this book to people who like to laugh a lot. I would rate this book 10 out of 10. Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Hamna Reviewer Age: 10 Review: This book is about a princess who tells the King and Queen that she wants a dragon, so they do. Then she sees the Moon Hare in the moon. The Moon Hare comes one day to rescue the King from the other King by a little help from the dragon. The dragon and the Moon Hare knew each other. The moon hare goes back to the moon. I would love to read another book like this. I think this book was very fascinating I recommend this in age groups 8 and over. MAGNIFICENT BOOK!!! Indicative Rating: 5/5

Reviewer Name: Cerri-Joanne Reviewer Age: 10 Review: I thought this book a very good book with plenty of detail. I liked it so much I went back to the library to see if they had the sequel. I found it and enjoyed it as much as the first one. I would have to say my favourite character is Sandra the marzipan loving dragon. The name was given to the dragon before they found out what gender it was and P.J. realized after she named it that Sandra was actually a boy, but the name still stuck. This book is probably just right for me as it is funny and nothing too bad in it.The Moon Hare “borrows” a few clothes from P.J. and seems to be able to fit everything in them.It is quite an adventurous book as King Winston (P.J.’s dad) gets accused of stealing something from the castle next door and the King of that castle (King Rupert) has a go at chopping his head off but The Moon Hare isn’t called Magnificent for nothing. He comes to save the day…..I’m sure other people would LOVE to read this book and would enjoy it as much as i did maybe even more….. Indicative Rating: 5/5

I thought he was going to trick them all. I was quite glad he died in the end. Overall it was very good, enjoyable, and brilliant. Rating: 4/5

Harry, aged 10: This is a good book. I personally love it to bits. The main characters are Oz, Lilly, Caydon, Spike, Demerara, and Isadore. Some of my favorite parts are when Oz, Lilly, and Caydon join the SMU, which is a government department for all paranormal and unexplained incidents. And when Oz changes an evil man into someone who would give their life to save someone else. Also when Demerara grows into a huge cat after swallowing a caca bean. And lastly, when Edwin saves Oz, Lilly, Caydon, Rosie, Norris, and Alan from certain doom. I didn’t like the fact that there were no illustrations; it would have made this book more understandable and enjoyable. I would give this book a 9 out of 10; it loses a mark because it can get complicated. This book is filled with twists and turns and a touch of magic that will keep your attention. I really enjoyed reading this book. I recommend you read this book; I found it funny and enjoyable. Rating: 4/5

Logan, aged 10: Oz and Lily’s family have inherited an ancient chocolate shop, and they’re moving in upstairs. It’s the perfect home… apart from the small fact that it’s haunted. My favorite character is Oz because he keeps asking questions like me. Rating: 4/5

It was aged perfectly for me and covered most issues that other books have failed to achieve, as well as funny characters like Demerara the cat and Alan the River Police Officer. There were so many good characters that I can’t choose my favorite! There were many brilliant ideas that I would never have thought of in a million years! The whole idea of the chocolatiers and magic amazes me! I rate it 10/10! Brilliant! Rating: 5/5

Harry, aged 11: The book ‘The Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop’ is a good book based on two children who become secret agents. Oz is captured by his long-lost great, great Uncle Isadore. Isadore had murdered Oz and Lily’s great, great Uncles Pierre and Marcel. He did this to be able to steal their magic chocolate molds, which would allow Isadore to become the most powerful chocolatier in the world. His plan was to sell the immortality chocolate to criminal organizations all over the world. My favorite character was Spike because he was a dirty old, smoking, immortal, talking rat who liked to butt into conversations and be a pain in the neck! Demerara was a sensible immortal talking cat who was desperate to kill Spike but couldn’t because he was immortal. I enjoyed the book. I especially liked it when they were in the underground tunnel searching for Isadore’s hideout. 8 out of 10! Rating: 4/5

Laura, aged 10: I thought this book was really interesting and fun to read, especially the part when Oz gets kidnapped by his Uncle Isadore. Rating: 4/5

Joynab, aged 11: The ‘Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop’ was a really good book. It was very interesting to read, and the author made every chapter very interesting; it always introduced new characters on every new chapter. I really liked that there was a mission involved with three kids, and there is a cat and a rat also involved who can speak and are also involved in the mission. Rating: 4/5

Chloe, aged 11: I really didn’t understand the book, and that is probably why I didn’t like it very much because when you don’t understand a book, it is very hard to like it. I think that you could probably really like the book if you understand it. Rating: 2/5

Review: “Moon Pie is an OK book. It didn’t catch my attention. I got bored during half of it because it was hard to get into. It was sad during the middle. I would recommend this book for 9-year-olds. Out of ten I would give it 3!! Sorry Simon Mason.” Rating: 3/5

Harry, aged 11

Review: “The book ‘Moon Pie’ was a good book overall. However, I wouldn’t have said this at the start because I found it very boring and meaningless, but as the story progressed, I got into the character of Martha and understood her position. My favorite character was Martha because she was involved all the way through the book and tried to help her dad get out of his addiction and succeeded in the end. She was also very grown up and acted as if she was a mother to Tug and also her dad. I would rate the book 4 stars.” Rating: 4/5

Review: “Moon Pie was the best FBA book I’ve read. It wasn’t too good at the beginning but got better with issues that didn’t go on and on. I liked Martha but preferred Tug. He was funny but didn’t destroy the tense feeling between Martha and her dad. It raised issues like alcoholism and the caring problems which brought in Social Services. Their grandma and grandpa were very stern, and I felt sorry for Martha having to be in that situation. I think Martha dealt well when her dad was an alcoholic. It had a perfect ending! Hollywood! I give 9/10!” Rating: 5/5

Review: “I think that Moon Pie is a good book. It’s a sad book because Martha, who is the main character, has to look after her little brother Tug and her dad. Her dad has been acting strange because his wife has died. Martha is a little bossy but very gentle, Tug loves pies he said that his favorite pie is steak and kidney. Martha’s dad is very crazy, he climbs onto the house roof, locks himself out of the house, and doesn’t like to talk about his wife. My favorite character is Tug; he is funny, loud, and keeps the book interesting because I didn’t know what he would do next. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. I hope I enjoy the next book I read as much as this one!” Rating: 4/5

Review: “The Moon Pie is a brilliant book. I would rate it nine out of ten because it is very good. I would recommend it to the age group of over nine because it is quite emotional and upsetting for people of an age under this limit. I think my favorite person was Tug because he was unusual and did not like doing things the normal way. My least favorite person was Martha because she was boring and she kept looking at the moon. The strangest person in the story was Marcus. He was cool and smart; he was dramatic and theatrical.” Rating: 4/5

Review: “We think that this book is upsetting, rude, and disturbing, the list goes on!” Rating: 2/5

Taiyba, aged 10

Review: “My favorite character was Tug because he had emotional feelings. The best bit was when they went to Marcus’s house, and he was saying Tug was strange, and that is true! I would give this book 3 stars out of 10. I would recommend this book for people aged 8-11. In this book, Martha and Tug get a surprise from their dad.” Rating: 3/5

Review: “I loved it! It was a brilliantly written book. It was quite sad, but the ending was really happy. One of my favorite books!” Rating: 5/5

Review: “I think Moon Pie was a fantastic book to read. It gave me a lot of description and detail about what was going on and happening in the story. It was just so superb. I think someday it could be a #1 bestseller book if other people like it like I do!!! It’s a very good story to write. I think the author did a brilliant job and should be proud of their work.” Rating: 5/5

Gurbir, aged 10

Review: “I think it was an amazing book because it caused a lot of atmosphere; it was like you couldn’t really wait, so you kept on reading. The thing I also liked about the book was that sometimes the dad was on the kids’ side, then he was drunk. The thing which was a bit sad for the kids was that he didn’t say that he was an alcoholic. I thought that Martha was acting like a really good grown-up because on one hand, she was looking after Tug, and then on the other hand, she was looking after her dad.” Rating: 4/5

Nimra, aged 9

Review: “This book was not good but also not bad. I would recommend this for ages 9 and over. I would like a book like this but adventurous because adventure books are mostly my type. I like this book a bit. I would give this book 7/10.” Rating: 3/5

Aamina, aged 10

Review: “Moon Pie was alright. It was not that exciting for me, but for other people, it might be exciting. Out of ten, I would give it 1/10. I would recommend this book to people who like big books like Harry Potter.” Rating: 2/5

The Money, Stan, Big Lauren and Me

Natasha, aged 9 Review: A boy named Billy Grimshaw Jones is thrilled about the new baby coming, because it means that Billy, his Mum, Dad and little brother Stan get to move to a new bigger house:17 Morgington Road, which has four bedrooms! Billy has a best friend called Big Lauren who always tells him if you do this or that at high school then it will make you look/sound like a baby, and you will get your head flushed down the toilet by some mean, older kids. When Mum loses her job…Billy and his family won’t be able to move house.Tragedy! So Billy’s family have to cancel Sky T.V, have discount deals food and many more things too! Mum’s car breaks down on the motorway, so they need a new car too. I wouldn’t want to be in Billy’s situation, would you? When Billy was walking past Kyle Perry’s house (a popular boy in his school)he saw Mrs Perry mad at Mr Perry and throwing things out of the window. One of the things was an envelope that Billy caught in his hands when he was walking past. In the envelope was lots of £20 notes. Billy wondered how it would all fit in as there was that much money. Mr Perry tells the police that lots of money has been stolen. Billy then finds out that Mr Perry told the police he had some money stolen, then realised that it must have been the money that Mrs Perry threw out of the window. Billy tells his dad about this and his dad helps to sort things out and returns the money. The moral of the story is that Billy realises that money does not buy happiness. Rating: 4/5

Alex, aged 10 Review: I wouldn’t really recommend this book as the only way I can read a whole book is if it has a good beginning and this book kind of didn’t. Rating: 2/5

Raheema, aged 10 Review: I think that The Money, Stan (big Lauren and me) was really boring. I had no idea what was happening in the story because I just didn’t want to read it, it was rubbish. Rating: 1/5

Aamina, aged 10 Review: I think this book was one of the best books I have ever read. I liked the characters especially because they were full of excitement and they went on lots of fun adventures, the title was catchy too! Rating: 5/5

Beth, aged 11 Review: I didn’t like this book because it was very hard to get into and wasn’t my kind of book to read, but others may like it more than me. Rating: 2/5

Archie, aged 11 Review: The book ‘The Money, Stan, Big Lauren and Me’ was slow to start of with. In my opinion some events, like fighting over what to watch on TV and the argument over whether Stan should be allowed in Billy’s room, didn’t need to be in the book. I have to say it didn’t stop me from enjoying the book. When Billy had all that money and no one else knew,it made me feel like I was in his place and I felt guilty and frightened. Whilst I was reading about the false alarm with the baby, I fell for it and thought the baby was coming! Some characters, like Big Lauren and Stan, made the book lively and funny. Some things Stan said and the time he dyed his hair purple made me laugh. Overall I enjoyed the second half of the book better then the first half. I would rate this book 7/10. Rating: 3.5/5

Harry, aged 11 Review: The book, ‘The Money,Stan,Big Lauren and Me,’ was a little slow moving and lacked in excitement to start off with. Some of the arguments like, what to watch on TV,or whether his family were allowed in his room were a little boring and pointless. However as the story thoroughly progressed further, about midway through it improved and more things started to happening like when they were hoping to move to 17 Mornington Street or when Billy and Stan started going to bingo with their nan so they had a chance of winning some money. Towards the end the story it improved drastically because it made me as if I was Billy when his mum was in hospital when everyone thought she was in labour but it was just a false alarm. My opinion’s that overall I enjoyed the book, but I think it could be a more exciting and funnier read. Rating: 3/5

Aamina, aged 9 Review: My favourite characters are dad and mum. They are my favourite characters because dad works in a factory which he makes pies also when you walk past them you can smell the delicious meat and onion. I like mum because mum doesn’t care about anything she only cares about money. I would recommend this book to people who love money. Out of ten I would give it eight out of ten. Rating: 4/5

Jack, aged 10 Review: The book “The Money, Stan, Big Lauren and Me” was hilarious and funny. Parts of it I did not understand like the bounty bar part, but until it got going on page 110, there was not enough action. I liked the part when they found out about the money under Billy’s pillow. I did not like the part about the accident with the baby. I thought that it was quite scary. My favourite part was the part about “Britain’s Got Talent”. That was a good idea for the writer. I would read it again if I ever had the chance to. It is a great book so I would recommend it to most people. It is however, not the best book in the world but it is worth reading, so thanks again for letting me read it. Rating: 4/5

Caitlin, aged 10 Review: I like this book although, there was no need for the bad language. Rating: 3/5

Hermione, aged 9 Review: I liked the book, because it was a sort of relaxed book. Until I got to page 92, because Billy’s mum was bleeding because the baby was broken, so she went in to hospital. Before long, it was ok and it settled down a bit. It was really exciting when Billy got into bed, and found an envelope! At the end of his bed .It started talking to him .It kept on saying open me billy open me! When the envelope had stopped talking, Billy opened it and found £5,540 that was my favourite bit because it was very exciting and I like exciting books. In my opinion I think it’s a very cool book. However it’s not really my sort of book, but other people will like it, because people are different. It’s not my kind of book because I like adventure and scary books. My favourite character is Big Lauren because she is weird and very funny. She never shuts up like my best friend! Rating: 3.5/5

Peter, aged 10 Review: The Money, Stan, Big Lauren and Me is a brilliant book. First it starts with a page from the main character’s diary explaining the name of the main character his brother and his step-dad. After three and a half pages the book starts properly. A hilarious and brilliant book. I really liked it the only part I didn’t understand was the part about the Bounties. I really liked the part about the money and the part about feeding the hamster the money. If I ever had the chance, I would read it again (even though this isn’t the best book in the world). If people asked about children’s books, I would highly recommend this book to them. Also I would recommend this book to a 9 to 12 year old. It was a thoroughly enjoyable book and I wish I could read it again. Rating: 4.5/5

Tamina, aged 10 Review: This book is brilliant but it has some inappropriate language for younger children. This book explains the life of a boy named Billy Grimshaw Jones and he has a friend called Big Lauren (or that’s what he calls her) teaches him all the things you need to know about high school. It is really funny because they get a new Sky box and love watching man vs food. They need to get a big house and Mum’s new boyfriend is moving in. Billy doesn’t like him that much. I would recommend this book to 8_14 yrs old. 7/10! Well done Joanna Nadin! Rating: 3.5/5

Lewis, aged 10 Review: Great book – stop and pick it up now – so funny YEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHH Rating: 5/5

Alessio, aged 10 Review: I didn’t like the book it was rather boring and there was no need for the language. I would not recommend it to anyone. Rating: 1/5

Katie, aged 11 Review: I didn’t like this book as much as ‘Kidnap in the Caribbean’. Many of my friends didn’t like it. I would rate this book 2 out of 10. It wasn’t my style. I would say that this book is for 12-14 year olds. Rating: 2/5

Macy and Bridget, aged 10 and 11 Review: I liked nothing about this book, it was rubbish I rate 1/10 Rating: 1/5

Aneesa, aged 10 Review: The characters in this story are Billy Grimshaw-Jones, his brother Stan, his mum and dad and his best friend Big Lauren. Big Lauren always tells Billy what to do and what not to do at secondary school otherwise he will get his head flushed down the toilet. Billy would like to move to a bigger house but unfortunately, Mum lost her job and could no longer afford it. Some words are inappropriate for younger children therefore, I would recommend this book to the ages over five. Rating: 3/5

Nimra, aged 9 Review: I don’t like this book because it has unappropriate words for children in this book. This book doesn’t have any of my favourite stuff in this book and this book is also boring I’d never read a book like this again this book should be for 12-14 years old. Rating: 1/5

Hamna, aged 10 Review: This book is about a boy named Billy Grimshaw Jones and his mum married a man named Dave. He’s got a brother named Stan, and a friend called Big Lauren. His mum is going to have a baby, so they have to move to a new house. But then his mum loses her job! And they’ll have to buy from cheap shops, but he doesn’t want to so he makes a plan. With the aid of little brother Stan and best friend Bif Lauren, Billy sets out to make his fortune. Nothing seems to work, until Billy stumbles across an envelope full of twenty pound notes that adds up to £5,345, whilst crossing a boy’s house and the boy’s mum accidentally seemed to drop it. He hides the money but he didn’t seem to feel any better. So he decides to lie that he is going to an x-factor audition, but instead he goes to the airport, and his mum’s friend spots him and calls him Dave, but Dave doesn’t say anything to Billy’s mum. And Billy’s mum gets a baby. I think that children 8-12 years old would like this book, especially those children that think that they are poor, so that they can learn that money isn’t everything about life. I would recommend this book so that everyone knows that money isn’t everything in life. Rating: 4/5

Taiyba, aged 10 Review: I don`t bother with this book because it has words that were very inappropriate for small children. Anyway my favourite character was Billy, because he is really the main person. My favourite part was when Billy found some money which was an interesting part. I would recommend this for people aged 10-20. I would give it 1 out of 10. Rating: 1/5

Ellie, aged 10 Review: I absolutely love this book. I couldn’t get my head out of it. I recommend it to all readers. The one thing I don’t get is why does it swear in a child’s book? Rating: 4/5

Harry, aged 10-11 Review: Can’t get into it. Don’t like it, worst read ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t like the diary style. Rating: 1/5

Amelia, aged 11 Review: I found it really hard to get into it. About after page 120 I got into it. Rating: 3/5

Ambia, aged 10 Review: I thought this book was brilliant it was really interesting because this book is about when Lauren took money and then she gave it back Rating: 4/5

Emily, aged 10 Review: I think it was a good book because it was exciting, nerve racking, happy and excellent book!!! Rating: 5/5

Ruhan, aged 10 Review: It was a sad story Rating: 2/5

Abby, aged 10 Review: It was a real riveting read and I like all the bits about wanting the money and the fact that they wanted to go on Britains Got Talent (The show where the people of Britain use their talents to compete for a cash prize) The Money, Stan, Big Lauren & Me really was a humoured book and I loved every word of it!! All the words made sense and really set the scene of a family that was in need of money. 9/10! 🙂 Rating: 4.5/5
